More and more people have been using LED lighting sources as replacements for old and traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent lighting. The list of benefits LED technology offers the typical consumer is long, with energy efficiency and a positive environmental impact at the top. LEDs aren’t just for the typical consumers, as now businesses and even the government are using LED lighting solutions for different applications. Read any LED news websites or magazines today and you will find examples of companies and governments installing LEDs in varying places.
An article from LEDs Magazine gives a few examples. The city of Pittsburg, CA, a suburb of Sacramento, has recently installed LED street lights replacing the old bulbs. By replacing nearly 1307 streetlights, the goal is to save roughly $76,000 per year in energy and maintenance costs. The city of Easthampton, MA is also carrying out a similar plan by replacing 469 streetlights with an estimated annual savings of $36,700. With so many communities and towns facing debt issues, switching to LED street lights makes sense.
On top of the money savings, it’s estimated that the Pittsburg example will eliminate the annual output of 281,413 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Making a switch to LED lighting solutions by the towns and communities show a positive initiative to the citizens about helping the environment. Hopefully, this will trickle down to the common household using LED technology and decreasing the carbon footprint. Every little bit helps. With examples like this gaining exposure through LED news sources, don’t be surprised if the next light you walk by out in public is of the LED variety.

One of the many benefits of using LED lighting sources is the ability to use them in a variety of different applications. They can come in different shapes and colors and be installed in streetlights, traffic lights, garage door lights, etc. However, it seems the most popular sellers are the simple white LED light sources. Companies that sell white LEDs have found great success in ignoring all the other types of LEDS and focusing their attention on improving the white LED bulb. The focus on quality is placed at the forefront of research and development teams.
One such company is Philips. Their slogan, “sense and simplicity”, sums up how they view their white LED lighting solutions. They believe they have perfected the white LED lighting sources. From their sales of these type of bulbs, it seems the public agree with them. Their website (philipslumileds.com) explains their process and what goes in to making their white LED bulbs special. The company believes that white light when given off from LED sources should be of the utmost quality. This quality in their minds refers to keeping a consistent color in the beam of light shown. Keeping a consistent temperature of the bulb is also key to their success. This is impressive as the product line for white LED bulbs offers a full spectrum of white LED lighting from 2540K-10,000K. Customers can pick and choose between cool, neutral, and warm lighting scenarios depending on their lighting needs. Look at philipslumileds.com if you are interested in learning more about Philips quality white LED lighting.

While reading through the New York Times, I came across an article that caught my eye in regards to LED lighting technology. I’ve researched LED technology and the various benefits that LED light bulbs offer over traditional bulbs. I also knew of some of the drawbacks to the technology such as one directional light projection and lack of warm lighting. It seems that a light source that can provide both energy efficiency and attractive light wasn’t available on the market. The article is about a company based in San Jose, California that say that they have come up with such a LED light bulb that eliminates the drawbacks and emits eye pleasing light.
The company, called Switch Lighting, has researched and developed a bulb they feel is set to completely replace incandescents in all lighting solutions. Backed by venture capitalist firms, Switch is poised to take control over the lighting market. Their bulb uses outward facing LEDs and cools them with an inert liquid, creating a warmer shine. The company sells the 75 watt equivalent bulb and claims that it is the “first true warm” white bulb on the market. Similar to other LEDs the light bulb offered from Switch contains no mercury. The New York Times article states that the light bulbs are also made out of 100% recyclable material. Don’t look now, but this may be the path lighting is headed towards. If enough people buy into the technology, look for other companies to take the idea and use it in their own light bulbs.

Today’s homeowners have many options when it comes to lighting their homes. Finding the right lighting solutions to meet expectations and desires can be a complicated process due to the variety of options. This article will discuss one such option to choose from, LED light bulbs. Traditional incandescent bulbs are being replaced with more eco-friendly LED (light emitting diode) bulbs. These bulbs are being revered for lasting longer while simultaneously using less power to operate. The bottom line savings on the electric bill over time, coupled with the low maintenance cost to replace them and eco-friendly viability, place LED technology at the forefront of the lighting industry. LED lighting sources can be used both indoors and outdoors by homeowners. This article will cover three uses for LED lighting technology inside the home.
The first is using LED lighting solutions for recessed lighting (or can lighting) fixtures. Using LED can light bulbs in recessed lighting fixtures is a relatively new phenomenon. Traditionally, incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs have been utilized in these situations. However, with LED technology continuing to be developed and tested, the LED option is becoming more prominent in these instances. A recessed light is a light fixture that is usually found in ceilings, which have light shining in a downward direction from a hole in the ceiling. Can lights have two parts- the housing and the trim. The housing is the light fixture where the bulb is installed and the trim is the portion of light visible to the human eye that shines downward. Can lighting is noted for being similar to that of a narrow spotlight. The benefits of installing led can light bulbs inside your home are plentiful. The recessed lighting gives a clean lighting effect to the room. Increasing the amount of light in the room, can lights can make a room appear larger than it actually is. LED can light bulbs can also put a beautiful touch when directed at artwork or centerpieces of the room. Rooms that contain ceilings made of concrete or plasterwork may not be ideal for can lighting situations.
The second application for using LED light bulbs inside the home is for lamp lighting purposes. LED lamp light bulbs are also a relatively new trend as more and more traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs are being replaced. Lamp lighting can be found all over the house in various styles, designs, and shapes. There are lamps that stand alone and those smaller lamps designed for end tables. Lamps on night stands and counter tops all can have LED bulbs installed. The lower energy required to power these bulbs bring a lot of comfort to those that use LED technology to supply their lamp lighting needs. With less power consumed, money is being saved. LED bulbs also give off low to no heat compared to their traditional counterparts. This brings relief to users as the risk of getting burned by a bulb is significantly lower. Also, with less heat given off, the chance of fire is reduced. Some standard lamps are capable of supporting LED light bulbs; other lamps are being sold on store shelves that are designed with LED light bulbs already installed. Look for colorful LED lamp light bulbs if looking to mix up the style of the room a little bit.
The final application is more of a feature of LED lighting technology, and that is a dimmable feature. LED dimmable light bulbs are yet again a new technology that is being installed in households. Dimming options give the user a way to manipulate the light source to set an atmosphere or ambience to their satisfaction. Dimmable LED’s are usually placed in overhead lighting sources. Oftentimes, these lights can be dimmed to create more of an intimate setting. During dimming, the LED dimmable light bulbs are still operated at the same voltage and current as if they were at full light output. No efficiency is loss when the bulbs are dimmed. The lifespan of the lamp is not affected when using LED dimmers. Shortened lifespan of the lamp has been a problem in the past with using traditional fluorescent light sources for dimming. Dimming the LED light source may actually increase the life of the bulb itself, as when dimmed they run at cooler operating temperatures. With a cooler operating temperature, comes less exposure to heat and less of an opportunity to burn the bulb out.
These three applications for LED lighting are easy to implement and can be found at brick and mortar stores along with on many e-commerce websites.

I was looking for an LED bulb for a lamp I already had in my home office. There was nothing wrong with the lamp itself—I just wanted a greener bulb that would give off about the same amount of light as a standard old 60 watt bulb. Of course, LED bulbs use much less energy to give off the same light as older bulbs, so I couldn’t just go out looking for a 60 watt LED. Also, I didn’t want it to be taller than the lampshade, or give off a light that was a harsh white. Thankfully, many online retail sites have helpful LED reviews that tell which bulb is the right for you.
Reading LED reviews is vital to finding the right bulb. You may think you know what voltage you need, but you may be mistaken. A traditional 60 watt lamp will need only a 7 watt LED bulb. You’ll want to know what the uses for a particular bulb are, which a review can tell you. Reading what someone else thought about a product can give you a better idea to how it will actually function when product titles and descriptions can be hazy or overly technical. They also reveal overall customer satisfaction about the product. It may basically work, but does it work well or deliver what it promises? LED Reviews can save a lot of time and frustration. And when you do find that product that is right for you and put it to use, you can write your own review, letting the company and other shoppers know what you think.

There are all kinds of articles on LED supplies that can tell you what you’ll need or what you can do to get started working with your new lights. For instance, I’m interested in putting LED headlights on my car, as they will not only use less energy, but they will have increased brightness as well. I found many helpful articles on LED and car themed sites and blogs. I learned that there are several different colors of headlights available (such as the ultra-blue lights that are all the rage) and how to install them myself to save money. With the articles, it was an easy process to find the right bulbs for my make and model, and then actually complete the installation. Articles on LED supplies can also tell you about different types of bulbs and what you need. If you’re interested in some motion activated outdoor lighting, there is all sorts of information about what sorts of kits you will need and how to set them up so your house is safer at night.
When trying to buy the right equipment, it can be daunting to look at charts full of technical specifications on products that look more like computer hard drives than LED lighting. Articles on LED supplies and their applications can clear away the mystery. Research can be done both online and also through forms of print media. It’s important to do all your research beforehand to avoid frustration later when you have boxes of foreign objects in your garage that you don’t know what to do with.

LED’s are versatile bulbs that can be used in many different everyday applications. This post is focusing specifically on the idea of safety lighting. Oftentimes, people don’t even bother to think about the bulb that is currently in their safety light. What people do care about is a safety light that will work in a time of emergency. Choosing LED bulbs for these applications seems to make the most sense. Using LED technology to put these kinds of bulbs in safety lights give the user many advantages. Money is saved due to less power being used and people can feel good about reducing their carbon footprint. On top of this, LEDs are known to have a longer lifespan. Safety lighting is needed most often in emergency situations. It’s comforting to know that you can rely on LED light sources to burn brighter and longer without burning out when compared to traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent light sources. Here’s a look at some common safety light applications where LEDs are being used.
Local police forces across the United States are implementing LED technology every day. More and more police cars are equipped with LED lighting for the top of the vehicle. LED’s for police beacons offer a brighter and more effective light for emergency situations. The beacon lights coupled with the police light bars on the top of cop cars are almost completely converted to LED technology across the country. These lights are being used not only for police cars but for all types of emergency vehicles- ambulances, fire trucks, etc. Members of police forces are also carrying LED safety baton flashlights. These flashlights produce a bright shine with the capability of lighting a room like a lantern, producing a steady power beam, and have strobe functionality. Additionally, police use full size LED strobe lights for emergency situations where they are needed. For residential settings, LED light bulbs have been placed in street lights to shine bright over neighborhood sidewalks and streets.
LED safety solutions for the more common consumer are available at local hardware stores and through online outlets. Personal safety devices such as bicycle lights and reflectors are incorporating LEDs. For bicycles, LED lights can be placed on handlebars and the spokes of the bike for additional safety. Clip on LEDs can be used when running or jogging to stand out against the darkness. Place a safety light on your pets to protect them at night when walking or running with them along the side of the road. There is a large selection of LED flashlights available for emergency use. One consumer trend that involves LEDs is replacing traditional flare lights with a more multidimensional and safer flare. Traditional flare use is being reduced due to safety hazards, pollution, and fire liability. With LED flare lights there is no dangerous flame. They seem poised to take over the flare market with their non-spark and waterproof ability. LEDs can be used for outside the home to light up the area making it a safer environment.
LEDs are being used by businesses and in commercial property settings for their safety lighting solutions. Modern day alarm systems are being equipped with LED light sources to flash in emergency settings. LED exit signs are replacing old and outdated exit signs. LED light sources are being placed outside large buildings for safety precautions. Prisons and jails across the country have installed LED spotlights to keep an eye on the grounds.
There are options available to consumers if they don’t want to buy new LED safety lighting solutions. For example, there are power converters and adapters available for sale that converts old, traditional lighting solutions to LED capable solutions. LED power adapters and transformers are very popular sellers. Going back to our exit signs, there are LED exit sign retrofit kits available to convert your current exit sign system to an LED lighting system. These retrofit kits will allow you go keep your current signs, but drastically increase their efficiency. Due to the longer lasting lifespan of the bulbs, maintenance costs go down as they won’t need to be replaced as often. It is estimated that by using one of these exit sign retrofit kits, exit signs will stay illuminated for 15-20 years.
Next time you go to buy a safety light of any kind, keep in mind that LED lighting solutions have many benefits to the consumer. Safety is not something to mess around with, so update your outdated safety light with LEDs and be protected for years to come.

LEDs have been around for longer than one might think; they are just now coming into practical use. In fact, the first LEDs were discovered in 1907 by H.J. Round, a British experimenter from Marconi Labs. His LED light was made of silicon carbide crystal and a cat’s-whisker detector. Through this method, he discovered the process of Electroluminescence, which is what makes an LED light up. It wasn’t until the 60’s however, that it was studied extensively. Understanding the specifics of LED technology is complicated but one of the best ways to get informed is to check out a YouTube video on the subject.

LEDs first came into use in seven-segment displays and expensive lab and electronics test equipment. Red LEDs were first use for indicators on TVs, remotes, watches, and other electronics, being not bright enough to light an area. As time went on, other colors were put into use and illumination capabilities increased, making it possible to develop the white light LED for light bulbs and the high intensity blue LED for car headlights.
There are all kinds of ways to utilize LED lights and even make your own displays, as seen in this YouTube Video. LED technology is now readily accessible to the general public and is now becoming the favored light source due to its efficiency and low running costs. And because they take less electricity to run, that means a greener living space or work environment, in addition to the savings on energy usage. It is easy to mass produce LEDs, making them much less expensive to buy. If still not convinced that LEDs can make an awesome lighting display, I recommend checking out a YouTube video for more info.

Imagine being able to make a television screen with an inkjet printer, like one you might find in your house. Not only that, but you can also roll up this screen and take it with you wherever you go. It emits light and even has the ability to show “true blacks.” It’s not something out of a sci-fi film or far future technology. It’s all very possible with little units called Organic light emitting diodes, or OLEDs. They’re made from layers of film containing organic compounds. There are many online articles that explain the process. For example, looking at a Wikipedia article is a good first step in understanding how OLEDs work.
Unlike traditional LCD displays, which use a backlight to help create images, OLEDs make light themselves. Information from the Wikipedia article explains that this means that not only do they use significantly less power, they also can display truer to life color, such as deep, “true” black, a concept that has eluded displays for years. They can also be printed out in huge, thin, lightweight plastic sheets to make 80” TVs and advertisement boards. Certain types, like White OLEDs, can be used as lighting for office spaces, and emit a more uniform, energy efficient light than fluorescent lights.
There are a couple drawbacks, however, as no new technology is perfect. According to the Wikipedia Article, Green and red OLEDs have a significantly longer lifespan than blue. Researchers are trying to increase the lifespan of the blue OLEDs, but for now displays have to compensate with color adjusting, making displays appear more blue or saturated at first.
